The aim of the Carved Flemish Altarpieces in Castile and León website is to introduce and re-evaluate some of the most noteworthy examples pertaining to this particular field that were imported from the former Low Countries that was bound together with the Spanish crown at the period.
In addition to these altarpieces, we have included others illustrating great Flemish influence that were manufactured locally during the same chronological period.
After the introductory texts, a catalogue describes sixteen altarpieces in depth (thirteen of which are Flemish and three are presumably locally-made), providing a comprehensive appreciation of them.
