Recreation and conservation at Béjar Forest

The JARCULTUR project includes restoration of the formal Romantic era garden; one of the key gardened spaces at the site. Work to recover Huerta de Abajo and the intermediate terraces is ongoing, in addition to refurbishment of the ground floor of the mansion as a reception space for visitors.

In addition, JARCULTUR encompasses all the necessary landscaping, archaeology and palynology technical studies and groundwork that are needed to broaden our understanding of this asset. A wide range of activities aimed at sharing information about the recuperated site have been accounted for. These include updates to visit management, preparation of digital guides, installation of information panels that are universally accessible and the creation of a webpage about the interventions. Furthermore, the project includes educational activities and informative workshops for school children, preparation of scientific and technical publications and didactic publications of several kinds, plus organisation of a congress about historical, cross-border gardens.

The European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan), environmental protection, more efficient use of available natural resources and safeguarding the historical and cultural heritage of the cross-border territory are also addressed within the framework of the project. This is implemented through two thematic objectives and five investment priorities, with the key aim of creating a network of cross-border green and cultural spaces of interest. Attracting more tourists to the area is also one of the project’s goals.
