De reciente apertura, en la Cuesta de Carvajal , en el centro de la ciudad de Salamanca, hay un Centro de Interpretaci\u00f3n en el que se explican muchos de los acontecimientos hist\u00f3ricos de la ciudad de Salamanca; en especial los que tienen relaci\u00f3n con sus murallas.<\/p>\n

En el solar, recientemente puesto en valor, vemos los restos de la muralla del Castro prerromano. Una imponente defensa de entre 3,5 y 7 metros de anchura. El poblado en el que se erige la monumental defensa se fecha entre el siglo IV a.C. y la conquista de los romanos y se extiende por la zona m\u00e1s alta de la ciudad.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n se ha documentado all\u00ed la llamada Cerca Vieja, la muralla construida a finales del siglo XII, cuando los reyes de Le\u00f3n repueblan la ciudad. Esta nueva muralla medieval sigui\u00f3 pr\u00e1cticamente el mismo trazado que la prerromana.<\/p>\n

Los trabajos arqueol\u00f3gicos realizados en 1999 han permitido documentar las diversas murallas mencionadas e igualmente la ampl\u00edsima secuencia de ocupaci\u00f3n en esta parte de la urbe salmantina iniciada en siglo IV a. C. y que persiste hasta bien entrada la \u00e9poca romana.<\/p>\n

El Centro de interpretaci\u00f3n permite ver los restos consolidados de la muralla prerromana y de la cerca vieja medieval y evocar la historia de Salamanca a trav\u00e9s de la explicaci\u00f3n de sus diversas murallas y de los acontecimientos b\u00e9licos en los que estuvieron inmersas; desde la conquista de Helmantik\u00e9 por An\u00edbal en el verano del 200 a.C., hasta los diversos episodios ligados a la Guerra de la Independencia, como la batalla de Salamanca.<\/p>\n

Todos estos procesos hist\u00f3ricos est\u00e1n expuestos a trav\u00e9s de infograf\u00edas, audiovisuales e interactivos. Hay, adem\u00e1s, un amplio muestrario de reproducciones de materiales arqueol\u00f3gicos ligados a la muralla prerromana.<\/p>\n
